With constant advancement of science and technology, 2-butanol acetate is being used more widely than ever in the following areas:

Used as paint solvent. 2-butanol acetate is similar to n-butanol acetate and isobutyl acetate in terms of properties. It is well soluble to many matters, and can be used to substitute n-butanol acetate and isobutyl acetate to make solvents such as nitrocellulose lacquer, acrylic paint, and polyurethane paint. Besides, it can also be used as quick dry agent for photosensitive material. In metallic finishes, 2-butanol acetate can be used to dissolve cellulose acetate butyrate.
Used as a solvent during the course to make synthetic resin.
Used as a solvent during the course to make paint solidifiers.
Used as a thinner, which is an ideal component to lower costs, and toxicity during the course to make thinners such as Tiana, banana oil, etc.
Used in ink. It can be used as a volatile solvent when making printing ink, replacing n-butanol acetate.
Used as a solvent replacing n-butanol acetate when making cohesive.
Used in pharmaceutical industry. 2-butanol acetate can be used to make penicillin. Since it features moderate volatility and good osmosis to skin, it is a contributing component to improve drug absorption.
Used as a spice. Similar to other isomers, 2-butanol acetate is fruit-smelling, and can be used as fruit essence.
Used as a component of reaction medium. 2-butanol acetate molecules are chiral, which is similar to other two common butyl acetates, and can be used as a reaction medium when, for example, synthesizing trialkylamine oxides, N, and N-diallyl ethylene glue, etc.
Used as a component of metallic cleaning agent to wash off the paint of surface of metals.
Used as a component of extracting agent, for extracting alcohols, propanols, and acrylic acid, etc; or as azeotrony distilling agent, partly replacing toluene, xylene, and methyl isobutyl ketone.

In recent year, due to the increasing global concern over the environment, people tend to cut the use of solvents such as toluene, xylene, and ketones. The advancement is directed towards developing and utilizing non-solvent resin paint.

Oxygenated solvents such as acetic ester are used to replace aromatic hydrocarbons and ketones in solvent paints. In solvent combination substitution, butyl acetate and its temper can take the place of methyl isobutyl ketone. Butyl acetate and ethyl acetate can substitute toluene and xylene in some combinations. Moreover, acetic esters can also be used to substitute toluene, xylene, and methyl isobutyl ketone during certain extracting processes. Under the circumstance when the total use of paint solvent is dropping, it is estimated that internationally speaking the acetic ester sees great prospects in its use as a solvent.
